SHOW BOX # 38 KEES WESTERVELT
THE CIRCLE MAP
At the Zaagmolenbrug Kees presents a modulair window installation. By walking through Rotterdam the city appeared to him as nothing else than a sum of buildings and roads. A playground of big bold forms. His installation ‘The Circle Map’ is made from modulair, simple forms that can be seen as a graphic abstraction of roads or pathways. It’s a small impersonal world on its own, but the reflection it creates attempts to reach out for a personal connection with the viewer.
Kees Westervelt (1992) explores the way our world can be produced or manipulated. He fantasises about the way things are made or could be remade and produces these ideas into models and art works on human scale. His works are often outspokenly abstract or figurative in his own signature style. He works with bold shapes and colours which makes it easier for him to get a grip on the world he reproduces or reflects on.
